Ferrari’s first electric vehicle, the Luce, designed by Jony Ive, is sold out for its 2027 production run, with all units pre-allocated despite its polarizing reception.
Ferrari’s inaugural electric vehicle (EV), the Luce, has achieved full allocation for its 2027 production, according to Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna. Although the five-seater electric model, crafted under the design leadership of Apple’s former chief designer Jony Ive, faced notable criticism and skepticism upon its May debut, demand has remained strong.
Priced starting at approximately $615,000, the Luce’s entire expected production for 2027 is accounted for, meaning prospective buyers will likely face a waiting period of at least a year for delivery. The company projects that initial units will begin reaching customers in the fourth quarter.
While Ferrari has not officially disclosed production numbers, reports suggest that nearly 500 units could be sold in the ongoing year, with a long-term goal of 2,500 cars sold by 2030, equating to roughly 600 units annually. Vigna emphasized that the buyer base is geographically and demographically diverse, with no particular concentration evident.
Alongside the Luce, Ferrari’s third-quarter financial results demonstrated solid performance fueled by the broader lineup and a growing appetite for bespoke customization options. Customizations accounted for over 21% of revenues from cars and spare parts, supporting the company’s premium positioning and profitability.
In response to rising demand, Ferrari increased its adjusted full-year earnings guidance to at least €3 billion ($3.36 billion), up from a previous estimate of €2.97 billion. The third quarter saw revenues climb 7% year-over-year to €1.9 billion, with net income up 13% at €431 million and a strong operating margin near 30%. This financial strength underscores Ferrari’s capacity to navigate the evolving luxury and electric vehicle markets.
Despite the Luce’s initial mixed reception, its sales success signals Ferrari’s entrance into electric mobility is gaining traction among luxury car buyers seeking performance fused with electrification and customization potential.
