Google updates Chrome’s autofill to use AI for fetching details like flight confirmations and order numbers from Gmail, simplifying form filling across devices.
Google’s Chrome browser has introduced a significant enhancement to its autofill feature by integrating AI capabilities that access users’ Gmail to retrieve relevant information for filling online forms. Announced on October 28, 2026, this update allows Chrome to suggest data such as flight confirmation numbers, membership IDs, tracking information, order numbers, addresses, phone numbers, and credit card details by analyzing emails in the user’s Gmail inbox.
This new functionality is an extension of Google’s existing Personal Intelligence framework, which connects Google Apps to its AI assistant, Gemini. Previously, Personal Intelligence enabled users to gather specific details for answering complex questions; now, it extends to practical applications like form completion.
Users can choose to enable or disable this enhanced autofill feature through Chrome’s settings, with Google emphasizing that sensitive data remains encrypted to maintain privacy and security. The rollout targets U.S. users initially, encompassing desktop versions of Chrome as well as the iOS and Android apps integrated with Gemini.
The update aims to improve user experience by reducing the manual effort required to enter frequently requested information on websites. This approach is reminiscent of Apple’s autofill improvements that automatically detect verification codes in text messages, offering one-tap entry.
Overall, the integration of AI-driven autofill connected to Gmail marks a step towards more personalized and seamless browser experiences, potentially reinforcing user engagement within Google's ecosystem by making Chrome more convenient and efficient to use.
