Meta has updated Instagram with an Apple TV app, enabling users to watch Reels, live streams, and other videos on the big screen, expanding Instagram's presence in living rooms.
Instagram is expanding its footprint into living rooms by launching an app for Apple TV that centers on video content tailored for larger screens. After initially testing a television-focused version in December of the previous year, which featured Reels, live streams, and other videos optimized for TV viewing, Instagram extended the app’s reach to platforms like Amazon Fire TV, Samsung Smart TVs, and Google TV earlier in the current year. Recently, Meta quietly introduced compatibility for Apple TV—the Instagram app was updated in the App Store on October 23rd to include Apple TV among its supported devices, having previously been limited to iPad and iOS devices as of mid-October. This move aligns with Instagram’s broader strategy to emphasize longer-form and episodic content, such as microdramas, aiming to capitalize on evolving viewing habits toward diverse video formats. Offering Instagram on Apple TV enhances the user experience by allowing seamless viewing of popular video content on larger displays, further integrating the social platform into home entertainment environments.
