Kazakhstan boosts its AI capabilities by deploying thousands of NVIDIA GPUs across infrastructure and AI-native firms, aiming to scale AI applications including robotaxis and wider developer access.
Kazakhstan is transitioning its artificial intelligence ecosystem from preliminary infrastructure initiatives toward active deployment across its full AI stack, encompassing infrastructure, model development, and applications. This comprehensive movement highlights the country’s growing supply of accelerated computing resources and an increasing demand for advanced AI capabilities.
At the infrastructure level, Kazakhtelecom, the largest telecommunications provider in Kazakhstan, has deployed a substantial number of NVIDIA GPUs, including 400 H200 and 480 B300 units situated in Astana and Almaty. The company has ambitious plans for 2027, targeting deployment of over 1,000 additional GPUs in the Data Center Valley region, along with more than 1,000 NVIDIA Vera Rubin GPUs at its Ekibastuz site. These deployments will support a variety of workload demands, providing scalable infrastructure accessible to enterprises, developers, and research institutions.
Further extending AI compute capacity, Kazakhstan’s AI-native companies are actively building their infrastructure and AI applications. Notably, inDrive and Pony.ai have initiated a collaboration to trial robotaxi services in Kazakhstan, selecting Astana as the initial city for deployment. This partnership intends to integrate Pony.ai’s seventh-generation robotaxis through the inDrive app, supported by NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure. The underlying technology stack features the NVIDIA Hyperion sensor and compute platform, combined with the NVIDIA Halos safety system to ensure operational security.
The expansion of local AI compute infrastructure facilitates developers and companies to train, fine-tune, and deploy increasingly sophisticated models. This process fosters an ecosystem where successful AI applications fuel further demand for compute resources.
Kazakhstan’s AI progression is not merely a matter of increasing GPU counts. The synergy among infrastructure deployment, developer access, academic institutions, startups, and industry partners is pivotal in transforming accelerated computing into tangible AI-driven solutions.
These recent developments mark significant maturation phases in Kazakhstan’s AI ecosystem, from enhanced infrastructure availability to the growth of AI-native products and services, laying a robust foundation for future innovation.
