HCLTech and Anthropic have formed a partnership to create a specialized business unit aimed at accelerating enterprise adoption of agentic AI, emphasizing safety, cybersecurity, and governance.

Indian IT services company HCLTech has announced a strategic agreement with AI firm Anthropic to establish a dedicated business unit focused on boosting the use of agentic artificial intelligence in enterprise environments. The collaboration is designed to accelerate the adoption of Anthropic’s AI models—such as Claude, Cowork, and Claude Code—across industry-specific solutions and HCL’s own software products.

HCLTech plans to integrate these advanced AI capabilities into select offerings within its HCLSoftware business unit, targeting areas like cybersecurity, automation, business process applications, and application development. As part of the partnership, a new ‘Anthropic Business Unit and Centre of Excellence’ will be set up to facilitate secure development environments and foster innovation with Claude in enterprise settings.

The initiative also includes advanced workforce training and the adoption of AI-native engineering practices to enable organizations to implement agentic AI safely and at scale. HCLTech intends to use Claude-powered AI for IT support and digital employee services, incorporating policy guardrails, exception handling, and human oversight in workflows, especially for sensitive or high-impact operations.

C Vijayakumar, CEO and managing director of HCLTech, highlighted the company’s unique position combining the scale of a global systems integrator with the product expertise of an independent software vendor. He emphasized this synergy as a significant advantage for securely deploying agentic AI solutions at scale to generate meaningful business outcomes.

This partnership follows a substantial $1.1 billion AI services deal HCLTech secured in July with a major European client, underscoring the company’s commitment to expanding AI-driven enterprise services. The collaboration with Anthropic is expected to reinforce HCLTech’s position in delivering secure, scalable AI technologies tailored for enterprise use cases.
