Volkswagen introduces the ID. Tiguan, an electric crossover replacing the ID.4 with a refined design, flexible powertrain options, and a customizable digital cockpit featuring retro instrument displays.
Volkswagen has introduced the ID. Tiguan, the new electric crossover that replaces the ID.4, which was initially launched in 2021 as part of VW’s early wave of post-dieselgate EVs. The ID. Tiguan combines the electric advancements of the ID. models with the established branding of the Tiguan, VW’s best-selling model globally, signaling an intent to bridge mainstream appeal with electric innovation.
Built on an updated MEB+ platform, the ID. Tiguan offers battery options of either 58 kWh or 77 kWh. The smaller battery pairs with a 187 hp (140 kW) rear electric motor, while the larger pack can be configured with either a 281 hp (210 kW) rear-wheel drive setup or a more powerful 295 hp (220 kW) all-wheel drive system. VW claims a WLTP-certified range up to 373 miles (600 km) on the larger battery, underscoring significant efficiency improvements.
Design-wise, the ID. Tiguan adopts Volkswagen’s new "Pure Positive" design language, aiming to elevate the vehicle’s presence into a premium segment both inside and out. The interior notably features increased use of traditional physical controls over touch-only interfaces, responding to customer feedback by including real buttons on the steering wheel, physical climate and window switches, and manual air vents, which contrast with many current EVs’ digital-only controls.
A standout feature is the optional 10-inch digital instrument cluster with a choice of retro-themed dial displays mimicking classic Volkswagen vehicles such as the Mk1 and Mk2 Golf, first-generation Tiguan, Touareg racing version, and Beetle models. This nostalgic customization adds a unique appeal for enthusiasts and reflects VW’s blend of heritage and modern technology.
The infotainment system is enhanced with a new 15-inch touchscreen, with an optional 12-inch passenger display also available, continuing a recent VW trend toward dual-screen layouts.
VW announced that pre-sales for the ID. Tiguan will begin in Europe next week, with a starting price of €42,695 (approximately $44,716) in Germany. While the vehicle is expected in the US market, Volkswagen has not yet disclosed specific timing or market details, promising further announcements following the European launch in early 2027.
