Google launches its Universal Cart in the US, an AI-powered tool that consolidates products from multiple retailers into one cart, enhancing organization and savings during holiday shopping season.

Google has launched its Universal Cart, an AI-driven online shopping tool designed to simplify holiday shopping by uniting products from various retailers into a single digital cart. Previewed at Google's I/O event in May, this feature is now available in the United States via the Gemini app and Google Search AI Mode. It aims to help users stay organized and find better deals during busy shopping periods like Black Friday and the holiday season.

The Universal Cart allows shoppers to add items from multiple retailers using different Google platforms, saving them all within one unified space. Google plans to extend this functionality to Gmail and YouTube, though no timeline has been provided yet. The system notifies users of price drops and restocks for saved items, removing the need to monitor each retailer's website independently. Additionally, Universal Cart can identify relevant promotional codes automatically.

Purchases can be made directly through Google Wallet within the cart or by transferring items to individual retailer carts for checkout. Moreover, Google Wallet analyzes credit card perks to recommend the most beneficial payment method when completing purchases.

This launch positions Google competitively in the growing AI-assisted shopping arena, alongside emerging AI shopping assistants from OpenAI, Meta, and recently expanded AI integrations on Shopify's platform. The move reflects a broader industry trend toward leveraging AI agents to facilitate and automate online shopping tasks, anticipating a future where intelligent assistants perform substantial parts of the purchasing process for consumers.

As the technological landscape evolves, Google's Universal Cart represents a pioneering effort to merge AI capabilities with digital commerce, enhancing convenience and potentially improving savings for users during peak shopping periods.
