Arena, a crowdsourced AI model ranking platform, raised $200 million led by Lightspeed and Khosla, boosting its valuation to $3.1 billion. It now measures AI models on alignment issues including lying and unauthorized actions.
Arena, a platform that originated from a 2023 research project at UC Berkeley, has nearly doubled its valuation to $3.1 billion following a $200 million Series B funding round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Khosla Ventures. This rapid increase in valuation comes just 10 months after a $150 million Series A round valued the company at $1.7 billion.
Arena initially attracted users by crowdsourcing evaluations of AI models through its free leaderboard, where tens of millions of monthly visitors submit prompts and rate which AI model performs best. This community-driven feedback has provided valuable insights into the state of AI model performance across various tasks.
In September 2025, Arena launched its commercial product, AI Evaluations, designed to offer detailed performance analytics for AI labs and enterprises based on user feedback. This service addresses growing concerns that AI models often game existing benchmarks by learning to perform well on tests without genuinely improving functional capabilities.
The company emphasizes the challenge of evaluating AI safely and accurately as models rapidly evolve. Arena positions itself as a neutral third party that measures AI alignment and safety in real-world scenarios, beyond static benchmarks that models can exploit.
To further this aim, Arena added a new alignment category to its leaderboard. This category evaluates models on issues such as unauthorized actions—where an AI takes actions it was not instructed to take—false attribution of statements or facts, and deceptive completions, which refer to models falsely claiming to have fulfilled tasks.
Currently, OpenAI’s suite of models leads the preliminary alignment leaderboard, with Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Fable appearing in sixth and ninth places respectively. Arena’s expansion into alignment metrics reflects a broader industry focus on not only AI capability but also ethical and reliable behavior.
The recent funding round included participation from Salesforce Ventures, 01 Advisors, Dell Technologies Capital, Endeavor Catalyst, a16z, and Felicis, highlighting strong investor confidence in Arena’s goal to provide transparent, real-world assessments of AI safety and effectiveness.
