Hiyd's new biometric sensor attaches seamlessly under any watch using microsuction, offering advanced health metrics without adhesives or magnets, and syncs data to a mobile app enhanced by AI-driven activity analysis.

Health tracking often requires users to choose between style and function, especially if they prefer traditional watches over bulkier fitness devices. Hiyd, a startup founded by ex-Apple engineer Salah Batroukh, aims to change that dynamic with a discreet health tracker that integrates with the watch you already wear.

The initial product is a slim, lightweight disc-shaped sensor that connects to the back of any wristwatch using a patented microsuction technology. This material, a textured silicone sheet with microscopic air pockets, creates a vacuum seal that holds the sensor firmly in place without adhesives or magnets, ensuring no residue or interference with watches that rely on magnetic components.

Measuring just 2.7 mm in thickness and weighing 7 grams, the sensor collects a variety of biometric data commonly found in premium wearable devices. Metrics include heart rate, heart rate variability, sleep staging, movement tracking, calories burned, and VO2 max estimates. The data is synchronized with an accompanying app available on both iOS and Android platforms.

To enhance accuracy, Hiyd’s engineering team is engaging in data annotation by recording their own daily activities such as walking, jogging, and running. By labeling these activities, they train the sensor's AI algorithms to recognize patterns quickly and improve the device's heuristic analysis capabilities.

Beyond activity tracking, Hiyd plans to incorporate nutrition tracking in its app to provide users with personalized insights linking food intake to sleep quality and performance. For example, users may receive notifications indicating how late-night workouts affect their rest or how sugar consumption before bedtime impacts sleep depth.

Batroukh, who spent seven years as a design engineer at Apple, emphasized his desire to develop consumer-focused products outside the constraints of a large corporation. Joining him are co-founders Omar Shakir, CTO and mechanical engineer, and Mahamad Charawi, head of software, with previous startup experience.

Hiyd is showcasing its sensor at TechCrunch Disrupt as one of the top 20 Startup Battlefield companies. The startup plans a Kickstarter campaign launching in November, having already secured reservations from over 16,000 potential customers. This innovative approach seeks to make health tracking both invisible and fashionable without compromising on data quality or user comfort.
