YouTube Music launches labeling system identifying AI involvement in tracks to enhance listener awareness amid rising AI music content on streaming platforms.
YouTube Music has introduced a new labeling system designed to enhance transparency around songs created using generative AI technology. Announced on October 14, 2026, this system clearly marks tracks that incorporate AI in their composition or vocals, allowing listeners to easily discern the extent of artificial intelligence involvement in the music they stream.
The new labels appear on the player page of tracks and include three designations: “Fully Gen AI” for songs entirely generated by AI; “Partly Gen AI” for tracks featuring AI-generated elements alongside live artist contributions; and “No Gen AI” for music without generative AI, such as those using pitch correction tools like Auto-Tune. Additional details about AI’s specific role in each track can be accessed by clicking the label.
Importantly, these labels will also be visible on the main YouTube app, extending transparency beyond the YouTube Music platform. YouTube developed this system in collaboration with music industry partners and employed proprietary detection tools to identify AI-generated content.
This initiative reflects broader industry efforts to cope with a surge in AI-generated music across streaming services. Other platforms like Apple Music and Spotify are also adopting AI-related labeling and controls, while Deezer and TIDAL have implemented stricter measures including filtering AI music from recommendations and withholding royalties for some AI-generated content.
In contrast, YouTube is focusing on informing users without imposing blanket restrictions or monetization blocks on AI-assisted tracks. The company continues experimenting with AI-created music through tools such as Dream Track, which enables selected creators to generate soundtracks using AI-simulated artist vocals.
Overall, YouTube Music's new labeling approach aims to provide listeners with clearer understanding of AI’s growing role in music creation, supporting informed choices as generative AI becomes increasingly integrated into the music industry.
