Apple Music's classic red app icon is replaced with a black-and-white design in the iOS 27.2 beta, featuring a sharper music note and color changes to widgets and interface elements.

Apple is refreshing the look of its Apple Music app icon in the latest iOS 27.2 beta, according to reports from The Verge and 9to5Mac. The traditionally red and white icon has been redesigned with a black and white color scheme, marking a significant departure from the app's familiar bold red background. The eighth note symbol on the icon is now rendered with a slightly sharper angle, providing a subtly modernized appearance.

In light mode, the icon displays a black music note on a white background, while dark mode reverses this color scheme to a white note on a black background, maintaining contrast and usability across themes. This monochromatic approach extends beyond the icon itself; Apple Music widgets have adopted black backgrounds and the app’s tab bar uses a splash of blue to highlight the active tab, signaling a fresh visual identity within the app interface.

This design shift aligns with other recent sightings of the new Apple Music logo, such as those on the Apple Music Hall website, suggesting a coordinated branding update. A social media user shared images demonstrating how the new icon appears in different color modes, including a tinted version that might allow users to mimic the classic red look on the home screen.

The changes currently appear only in the iOS 27.2 beta, so it remains to be seen if Apple will roll out the new icon and interface updates in a public release. The update indicates Apple’s ongoing efforts to refresh its app designs to better align with system-wide theme changes and evolving user interface trends.
