With iOS 27, Siri automatically recognizes Spotify as the preferred music app for hands-free playback, removing the need to specify the app in voice commands.
Spotify has introduced a new Siri integration feature for iPhone users running iOS 27, allowing for more natural and convenient voice-controlled music playback. Previously, Spotify users had to say commands like “Play jazz on Spotify” to ensure Siri used the Spotify app. Now, Siri can learn the user’s preferred music application — in this case, Spotify — and route audio requests directly to it without needing to mention the app explicitly.
This enhancement means users can simply say “Play my workout playlist” or request specific songs, albums, podcasts, audiobooks, or even Spotify’s unique features like “Play my DJ.” Siri will interpret these commands and play the desired content through Spotify seamlessly.
Beyond playback, Siri voice control can now handle commands for personalized recommendations, resuming podcasts, searching a user’s library, and even creating AI-driven Prompted Playlists. Spotify anticipates this improvement will make hands-free listening more fluid and intuitive by focusing on what users want to hear rather than how to phrase their requests.
The feature is currently available globally for iPhone 15 Pro or later models outside the European Union, provided Apple Intelligence is turned on in the device settings. This update highlights ongoing efforts to deepen integration between Spotify and iOS voice controls, enhancing the overall user experience for Spotify listeners on Apple devices.
