Blueprints AI offers AI-driven software that converts sketches or PDFs into code-compliant building blueprints quickly, aiming to reduce architects' drafting workload and improve design efficiency.

Blueprints AI, a Santa Monica-based startup, has developed AI software capable of producing code-compliant, permit-ready architectural blueprints in minutes from inputs like photos, sketches, or PDFs. Founded in 2025 by architect Al Dram and data scientist Coco Cao, the company leverages generative AI technology inspired by tools like ChatGPT to automate the traditionally repetitive drafting tasks architects face.

Al Dram, who has extensive experience spanning architecture degrees and running his own design and construction firms since 2018, conceived the idea nearly two decades ago. However, only with the emergence of advanced AI models did it become feasible to realize it. The startup trained its AI models on eight years’ worth of approved drawing sets from Dram’s firm to ensure compliance and quality.

Blueprints AI’s initial offering generates architectural construction documents with subscription plans ranging from $3,200 to $8,500 monthly. At the TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 event, the company unveiled a second-generation version that significantly expands capabilities. This upgrade allows users to input project descriptions or sketches and receive comprehensive blueprints covering architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and interior design aspects simultaneously.

Moreover, version two enables real-time design edits where a single change automatically updates the entire building plan while verifying compliance with local building codes. Early customers are already employing this enhanced version, which is set for public release imminently. The startup plans to continue developing, with a third version incorporating features like structural analysis and electrical panel design in progress.

Importantly, Blueprints AI’s approach does not replace licensed architects. Human professionals remain responsible for reviewing, validating, and sealing the plans before permit submission. The technology primarily aims to shift architects’ focus from drafting—currently consuming about 80% of their time—to more creative design work, potentially flipping that ratio.

Blueprints AI targets both professional architecture and engineering firms and real estate developers and owners, offering flexible subscription and possible single-project pricing models. This innovation highlights the growing impact of AI in architectural workflows, promising greater efficiency and improved building designs.
