National Geographic debuts Africa: Earth's Wild Home, a seven-episode series narrated by Wunmi Mosaku, exploring Africa's diverse habitats and conservation efforts with unprecedented wildlife footage.

National Geographic has released Africa: Earth’s Wild Home, a seven-episode documentary series offering an in-depth look at the continent’s diverse wildlife and ecosystems. Narrated by actor Wunmi Mosaku, known for roles in productions like Sinners and Loki, the series highlights the natural beauty and ecological complexity of Africa across nearly 30 countries.

Filmed over four years, each episode focuses on a distinct ecosystem—from jungles and deserts to plains, mountains, and islands—capturing encounters with rare and elusive animals such as a reclusive black rain frog, documented on screen for the first time, and chimpanzees employing rudimentary tools. The narrative intertwines striking wildlife footage with profiles of local scientists, photographers, and conservation leaders working to preserve Africa’s biodiversity.

The production employed innovative filming technology to capture the wild scenes, including drones for immersive perspectives, a robotic arm for extended takes, and specialized underwater and low-light cameras that recorded behaviors like hippos receiving “spa treatments” from barbel fish and dwarf crocodiles hunting bats inside dark caves. High-tech equipment also incorporated infrared and remotely operated zoom features to film nocturnal activities without disturbing the animals.

Narrator Wunmi Mosaku connected personally to the project due to her Nigerian heritage and found the storytelling approach both authentic and empathetic. She emphasized the shared survival instincts across species, narrating with genuine emotion to bridge the gap between viewers and the animals’ experiences. Mosaku expressed hope that the series would inspire viewers to recognize humanity’s connection to the natural world and support conservation efforts.

Africa: Earth’s Wild Home is designed to launch a documentary franchise covering all seven continents, with Africa as its debut chapter. It is now streaming on Disney+ and Hulu, inviting audiences worldwide to witness the relentless, peaceful, and beautiful dynamics of life across the African continent.
