Google introduces the Fitbit Edge, a new fitness tracker positioned between the Pixel Watch 5 and Fitbit Air, featuring a larger screen, enhanced sensors, GPS, and a sleek design, priced competitively with a focus on fitness rather than full smartwatch capabilities.

Google has announced the Fitbit Edge, a new fitness tracker aimed at users seeking a middle ground between the high-end Pixel Watch 5 and the budget Fitbit Air. The Fitbit Edge builds on the Charge 6 lineage with a refined design and upgraded features, but it stops short of being a full smartwatch.

Featuring a 1.34-inch pill-shaped OLED touch display housed in a slender aluminum frame rated IP68 for water and dust resistance, the Edge offers 46% more display area than the Charge 6. Its form factor closely resembles that of the Fitbit Air, sharing the same magnetic charging puck for convenience.

The device supports both Android and iOS platforms via the Google Health app and boasts approximately seven days of battery life without an always-on display. Activating the always-on mode reduces battery performance to around two days, comparable to the Pixel Watch 5’s endurance.

In terms of controls, the Fitbit Edge includes a single tactile side button to wake the device or manage workout sessions, balancing between the Pixel Watch’s two buttons and the Air’s lack of physical buttons. Most interactions rely on the touchscreen interface.

The Edge focuses primarily on fitness features and does not support downloading additional apps. It mirrors notifications from the paired phone but lacks a microphone and speaker, restricting response options to preset quick replies. Notably, it does not support Google Wallet or NFC payments.

Key upgrades over the Fitbit Air include onboard GPS for phone-free activity tracking, although the GPS sensor is less precise than the Pixel Watch 5’s dual-band system. The tracker retains advanced health sensors such as ECG, blood oxygen monitoring, an altimeter, optical heart rate, and skin temperature sensing.

Data collected syncs with the Google Health app via Bluetooth 5.4, integrating with Google’s AI-powered Health Coach chatbot. The device includes a three-month subscription to Google Health Premium, a $10 per month service that unlocks AI features, though users can opt to disable the coach.

The Fitbit Edge is offered in several colors, including matte black, polished silver, satin pyrite, and champagne gold. It retails at $180 with a basic silicone band, with a Stephen Curry Special Edition priced at $220. A variety of additional band options will be available at launch, ranging from $40 to $150.

Preorders for the Fitbit Edge opened immediately, with shipments scheduled for October 27, 2026. Google highlights that this is their first repairable fitness tracker designed with a replaceable battery through authorized service, marking a step towards longevity for wearable devices.

The Edge complements Google’s broader wearable ecosystem, allowing users to seamlessly switch and track their health data between multiple compatible devices without needing to re-pair or manually transfer information. This flexibility enables combinations such as wearing the Pixel Watch 5 during the day and switching to the Edge for workouts, all synchronized through the Google Health platform.
