The Browser Company will discontinue its Arc browser on December 22, shifting focus entirely to its AI-driven Dia browser. The shutdown will occur in phases, ending support across platforms and services.
The Browser Company has announced the planned discontinuation of its Arc browser, with a complete shutdown scheduled for December 22. The company had already transitioned its development efforts to Dia, an AI-focused browser launched last year, but had maintained Arc until now. According to an official post on the Arc website and reporting by The Verge, new Arc account creation ceased immediately following the announcement.
On November 23, several key features on mobile platforms will be disabled. Specifically, Arc’s ‘Browse for Me’ and other AI functionalities on iOS and Android will no longer be available, alongside the suspension of sign-in and tab sync capabilities. The final stage on December 22 will see Arc’s macOS and Windows versions become inaccessible, Arc accounts deactivated, and removal of Arc Search for Android from Google Play.
For users wishing to retain their browsing data, The Browser Company provides an FAQ outlining how to import existing Arc data into Dia. The company emphasized that its security resources are now fully dedicated to supporting Dia, marking a strategic shift to an AI-centric browsing experience. This move reflects the company's focus on integrating artificial intelligence into its products, with Arc being phased out after serving as a pioneering but now legacy browser.
Details regarding user migration and security were made available to assist in the transition. No further updates on Arc’s technology or potential revival have been indicated, confirming that the company’s future lies with Dia and AI-driven browsing innovation.
