Wyze introduces the Ultra BodyScan Plus smart scale, relocating the screen to a handle and expanding body composition metrics to over 50, available now without subscription fees.
Wyze has unveiled the Ultra BodyScan Plus, an upgraded version of its Ultra BodyScan smart scale first released nearly a year ago. This new model features a notable redesign that moves the device's 4.3-inch customizable color display from the scale's platform to a retractable handle, enhancing visibility by positioning it closer to eye level. This change aims to improve ease of reading health data while using the scale.
In addition to this ergonomic update, the Ultra BodyScan Plus significantly expands its health tracking capabilities. While the original model measured 13 body composition metrics such as weight, BMI, bone mass, body water percentage, and muscle weight, the Plus version now delivers measurements for over 50 different metrics. These include detailed insights like visceral fat, protein levels, and basal metabolic rate, the latter representing the minimum calories the body needs daily to maintain itself.
The scale employs bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) technology to provide a comprehensive breakdown of these metrics across various parts of the body, including arms, legs, and torso, thanks to the additional electrodes on its retractable handle. This detailed segmental analysis aims to offer users a granular view of their body composition.
Wyze's Ultra BodyScan Plus supports syncing health data via Bluetooth through a nearby smartphone to Apple Health, Google Health, and Android's Health Connect. Alternatively, it can connect directly to the cloud using home Wi-Fi, facilitating flexible data access and management. Notably, Wyze provides this advanced functionality without requiring any subscription fees, distinguishing it from competitors like Withings, which recently introduced a $99.50 annual subscription for health data synchronization.
The device supports up to eight registered users for personalized tracking while allowing an unlimited number of guests to perform one-time measurements. Additionally, it includes a mode designed for weighing children, pets, or luggage when held, though this mode does not provide detailed health metrics.
The Wyze Scale Ultra BodyScan Plus is available for purchase starting today at $149 through Wyze's online store, offered in black or white options. This price reflects a $30 premium over the original Ultra BodyScan, justified by the expanded features and ergonomic improvements. Wyze's release underscores a trend towards more accessible and detailed home health monitoring solutions that prioritize user convenience and comprehensive data without recurring costs.
