Ember launches its Mug 3, introducing button-based temperature adjustment and other enhancements to keep drinks perfectly warm without the need for app interaction.
Ember has introduced its third-generation smart mug, the Ember Mug 3, designed to maintain beverage temperature precisely and conveniently. Building on the original 2016 smart mug concept, this latest model eliminates the need to use a smartphone app for temperature adjustments by incorporating a button on the bottom of the mug. Users can cycle through five preset temperature levels, starting at 125°F and increasing in 5-degree increments up to 145°F, allowing easy tactile control to warm drinks without retrieving a phone.
This on-mug control has been praised for practical use during relaxed settings, such as reading in bed, where a phone may not be immediately accessible. It also addresses previous user concerns about connectivity and pairing problems related to the Ember app.
However, the placement of the control button underneath the mug presents usability challenges; pressing it requires tilting the mug and applying firm downward pressure, which may be awkward when handling hot liquids.
For those preferring app-based customization, the Ember app remains available via Bluetooth pairing, offering drink-specific temperature presets—136°F for black coffee, 132°F for green tea, and 142°F for lemon water—as well as the option to define personal temperature settings.
Additional improvements in the Mug 3 include a sliding lid to reduce spills, the capability to maintain set temperatures for up to three hours on a single charge, and the distinction as Ember’s first top-rack dishwasher-safe model, though it is not microwave-safe.
The Mug 3 is offered in two sizes: a 10-ounce version priced at $129 in black, white, and stainless steel finishes, and a 14-ounce model for $149 available in eight colors, including sage green and lavender. Ember also introduced the Tumbler 2, a 16-ounce tumbler tailored for car cup holders, priced at $179.
These products are commercially available through Ember's website, Target, and Amazon, expanding options for consumers seeking temperature-controlled drinkware with improved usability features.
