YouTube now labels songs that are fully or partly created using AI with a "Made with AI" tag, aiming to increase transparency for listeners within YouTube Music and later on main YouTube app.
YouTube has launched a new labeling feature to identify songs that have been significantly created or altered using artificial intelligence. The new “Made with AI” label appears on tracks where AI played a key role, including the creation of compositions and vocals through generative models. This initiative builds on YouTube’s existing practices for marking AI-generated videos and aims to offer users greater clarity about the nature of the music they are streaming.
The label currently rolls out in the YouTube Music app, with plans to extend availability to the main YouTube platform. When users tap on the label on a player page, they receive additional contextual information about the AI involvement in the track. YouTube works closely with music partners to ensure accurate disclosure of AI contribution and also uses its own detection methods to evaluate tracks lacking explicit declarations.
This move reflects YouTube’s effort to provide transparent information as AI-generated content becomes increasingly common within the music industry. It aligns with similar steps taken by other music platforms earlier in 2026. For example, Spotify introduced a voluntary AI label and refrains from promoting songs originating from “AI personas.” Apple Music is reportedly preparing to add an AI tag as well. Some platforms have adopted more stringent policies: Deezer offers an option to filter out AI-made tracks, and Bandcamp has outright banned music generated by artificial intelligence.
YouTube’s labeling approach acknowledges that while AI tools are widely used in music production, distinguishing fully AI-generated or substantially AI-altered works is important for listeners’ awareness. This initiative could influence consumer choices and industry standards regarding AI-created media in the near future.
