Owners of small vessels in Russia can now present their boat operator licenses through a QR code in the Max messenger's Digital ID service. This allows easy verification by emergency service staff with a quick scan.

The Russian national messenger Max has introduced a convenient digital method for owners of small boats to confirm their licenses to operate vessels. This is achieved through the "Digital ID" service integrated within the Max app. According to the messenger's press office, boat operators can generate a QR code representing their license, which can then be scanned on the spot by emergency service (MChS) personnel for rapid validation.

To create this digital identifier, users navigate to the "Digital ID" section of Max, select "Create QR," and authorize data sharing via the government portal "Gosuslugi." Within the transport subsection, users can also access their boat license digitally.

The Digital ID feature allows users not only to store electronic documents but also to verify identity, age, and eligibility for benefits. Its utility extends beyond transport licenses, facilitating hotel check-ins, purchasing age-restricted products, obtaining discounts at cultural venues, and buying transportation tickets.

As of October 2026, Max's user base has exceeded 140 million people, with over 10 million actively using the Digital ID service, highlighting growing adoption of digital identity solutions in Russia's everyday activities.

This new digital approach simplifies interactions with authorities and supports broader governmental efforts to modernize document verification processes via mobile technology. However, full operational details and security measures of the service have not been exhaustively detailed by Max at this time.
