Siemens is planning to spin off its digital health unit, Siemens Healthineers, completing the separation in 2027 to better leverage industrial AI and sharpen its healthcare innovation focus.
Siemens has initiated the process of spinning off its digital health division, Siemens Healthineers, marking a significant strategic step in expanding its industrial artificial intelligence (AI) ambitions. The move involves transitioning the healthcare unit into a fully independent company, dropping the "Siemens" brand name to better reflect its standalone status and market potential.
Siemens Healthineers is known for providing advanced medical products and services that enhance clinical decision-making. Its portfolio includes pioneering technologies such as digital twins of patients and image-guided treatment systems, all integrated with specialized AI solutions that connect diverse data streams for improved healthcare outcomes.
Roland Busch, Siemens president and CEO, highlighted the division's success, describing it as a "global leader" in its field. He emphasized that the spinoff will clearly represent this evolution, while simultaneously strengthening Siemens' identity as a company focused on scaling AI applications in practical, real-world scenarios.
Bernd Montag, CEO of Siemens Healthineers, affirmed the unit's commitment to ongoing innovation and healthcare breakthroughs as an independent entity. The formal spin-off proposal is expected to be submitted to the boards of both Siemens and Healthineers early in 2027, with the transition anticipated to conclude within that year following brand registration with German authorities.
During the brand transition phase, a three-year agreement will cover existing products and legal structures to ensure business continuity. This strategic move aligns with Siemens' broader goal of leveraging AI technologies across multiple industrial sectors, while enabling Healthineers to fully realize its potential in the digital health market as a standalone company.
