TikTok introduces Must Eat, a restaurant recommendation feature using 40 million food-related posts to help users discover and book dining spots, currently available in select US cities.
TikTok has launched a new in-app feature called Must Eat, designed to offer restaurant recommendations by leveraging its vast trove of user-generated content about dining. The feature collects insights from over 40 million posts, reviews, and comments related to food on TikTok, providing a dynamic guide that aims to rival established platforms like Yelp and Google Maps.
Must Eat organizes restaurant options into two categories: "everyday eats" and "elevated dining," allowing users to filter listings by criteria such as rating, distance, cuisine type, and current open status. Each restaurant page connects directly to TikTok videos showcasing the venue, giving users an immersive glimpse into popular local eateries. Visitors can also leave reviews, place calls, make reservations, and search for nearby venues via a map interface.
The feature is currently available in select U.S. markets including New York City, Los Angeles, and the Bay Area. TikTok emphasizes that restaurants do not pay to be featured, aiming for an organic and community-driven curation. Notable featured spots include viral pancake destination Golden Diner and sought-after eateries like Semma and Via Carota in New York.
TikTok US CEO Adam Presser described Must Eat as a "compilation of all conversation happening on TikTok" involving creators, restaurateurs, and diners, highlighting its role in translating popular video content into real-world visits. This move builds on earlier TikTok expansions into travel and bookings with TikTok Go, which enabled reservations for hotels and attractions linked to creator content.
The launch reflects TikTok’s significant influence on dining trends, as clips on the platform increasingly shape what restaurants offer, from distinctive visual food features to new menu items. According to TikTok, last year 27 million U.S. diners visited a new restaurant, cafe, or shop after discovering it through the app, underscoring the platform’s growing impact on local businesses and consumer decisions.
