Apple commits $100 million to Pennsylvania-based Perryman Company for titanium supply used in the iPhone Duo's durable casing, expanding its US manufacturing efforts.

Apple has announced a significant investment of up to $100 million in Perryman Company, a titanium supplier headquartered in Pennsylvania, to support the production of titanium components for the upcoming iPhone Duo. This partnership forms part of Apple’s broader American Manufacturing Program (AMP), under which the company is deepening its commitment to strengthen the US technology supply chain. The agreement with Perryman spans three years and covers the supply of grade 5 titanium, notable for containing at least 80% recycled material, which will be used primarily for the robust casing of the iPhone Duo. This high-grade titanium is intended to enhance the durability of Apple’s premium foldable smartphone, priced from $1,999.

The announcement coincides with news about the iPhone Duo’s limited availability, as pre-orders quickly led to delivery delays that now extend into January 2027. In addition to the titanium supply deal, Apple is expanding collaboration with Qnity Electronics of Delaware to manufacture technology for the iPhone 18 Pro’s variable aperture camera system. This reinforces Apple’s reliance on US-based suppliers for critical smartphone components.

Apple highlighted that approximately 100 components for the iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro, including wireless chips and essential semiconductors, are produced by US companies across more than a dozen states. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) in Arizona is set to produce over 100 million chips for Apple this year, while Corning’s Kentucky plant will manufacture all protective glass for iPhones and Apple Watches globally by year-end. Other AMP partners include Broadcom, which manufactures chips in the US, and Amkor Technology, constructing a semiconductor packaging and testing facility in Peoria, Arizona.

Apple’s Chief Operating Officer Sabih Khan expressed enthusiasm for expanding collaborations with US-based companies producing advanced materials and components for Apple’s new iPhone lineup. This move not only advances Apple’s supply chain resilience but also underscores its strategic emphasis on domestic manufacturing investments as it prepares to launch its first foldable smartphone widely.
