Apple invests up to $100 million with Pennsylvania-based Perryman Company for titanium used in its upcoming iPhone Duo as part of its American Manufacturing Program, also expanding U.S. production for iPhone 18 Pro camera components.
Apple has committed up to $100 million over three years to the Pennsylvania-based Perryman Company, a titanium supplier, as part of its American Manufacturing Program (AMP). This investment supports the supply of grade 5 titanium, which contains at least 80% recycled material, used primarily for the enclosure of Apple's upcoming iPhone Duo. The iPhone Duo, starting at $1,999, is Apple’s first foldable device and is scheduled to launch in stores on 23 October 2026.
The deal aims to enhance domestic production of key materials and components in the United States. Titanium’s role in the iPhone Duo is to provide enhanced durability to the phone’s exterior. Perryman’s operations in melting, forging, and rolling titanium are expected to meet Apple’s high standards for sustainability and performance.
Concurrent with this, Apple is expanding its partnership with Qnity Electronics, based in Delaware, to ramp up production of advanced components for the variable aperture system in the iPhone 18 Pro’s camera. This showcases Apple's commitment to using U.S. manufacturing capabilities to produce sophisticated camera technology.
Apple noted that nearly 100 components used in the iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro are sourced from American companies across more than a dozen states. Key partners include Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), whose Arizona facility is projected to produce over 100 million chips for Apple in 2026, and Corning’s Kentucky plant, which will manufacture all cover glass for iPhones and Apple Watches globally by the end of the year.
Other AMP partners highlighted include Broadcom, which supplies U.S.-made chips, and Amkor Technology, which is developing a semiconductor packaging and testing facility in Peoria, Arizona.
Apple Chief Operating Officer Sabih Khan expressed enthusiasm about expanding collaborations with companies producing advanced materials and components domestically for Apple’s newest iPhone lineup, underscoring the broader strategic focus on reshoring high-tech manufacturing capabilities to the United States.
This move comes amidst reports of constrained supply for the iPhone Duo, whose initial online delivery estimates quickly extended to January 2027 shortly after preorders began on 16 October. Apple's investment in U.S. suppliers is thus part of broader efforts to secure and diversify its supply chain for critical components in its next-generation devices.
