Google’s 2025 EU Economic Impact Report reveals the company’s digital tools, cloud, and AI technologies contributed over €200 billion to the EU economy, underscoring AI's role in boosting productivity and business expansion across Europe.
Google has published its 2025 EU Economic Impact Report, detailing the substantial role the company’s digital products, cloud infrastructure, and AI technologies play in Europe’s economy. Commissioned by Google and developed with Implement Consulting Group, the report quantifies Google’s overall contribution to the European Union’s GDP at more than €200 billion, equivalent to around 1% of the entire EU GDP — a magnitude comparable to the agriculture sector.
This economic impact is categorized into three main areas. First, Google’s products and platforms, including Search, Ads, Android, Google Play, Chrome, and YouTube, account for approximately €157 billion by connecting millions of European businesses to global markets, enabling creators to monetize content, and facilitating access to vital information and services.
Secondly, AI and Cloud services add roughly €32 billion by supporting enterprises, public institutions, and developers in scaling infrastructure, optimizing operations, and innovating securely within Europe. Finally, Google’s infrastructure and offices contribute about €11 billion through local procurement, supply-chain activities, and community investments.
The report underscores tangible productivity improvements from AI adoption across the continent. The European Investment Bank found that AI has increased labor productivity by an average of 4% in firms employing such technologies without causing job losses. A highlighted case is Renault Group, which leverages Google AI to overhaul its manufacturing processes—reducing factory downtime and defects by half, thereby saving between €100 million and €120 million annually.
Looking forward, Google projects that AI could enhance the European economy by up to €1.2 trillion annually within a decade. However, realizing this potential requires a stable regulatory framework that encourages innovation and growth along with efforts to equip the workforce with digital and AI skills, areas where Google has invested heavily, training over 13 million people in the EU since 2014.
Google’s European presence has grown over 25 years to encompass 26 offices across 17 EU member states and eight data centers, supporting over 100,000 jobs. The company emphasizes its role as a committed partner within European communities, dedicated to fostering inclusive and sustainable economic development through collaboration with local institutions and businesses.
The full details and insights of the economic impact can be explored in Google’s 2025 EU Economic Impact Report, available on their official blog.
