Atlanta-based metal band Mastodon reissued their album Marrow Deep on vinyl incorporating powdered mastodon teeth, a unique fusion of music and prehistoric material. The limited edition of 170 records will be offered via an online lottery during their new tour.
American metal band Mastodon has launched an extraordinary edition of their latest album, Marrow Deep, pressed on vinyl that contains actual powdered teeth of a mastodon, an ancient relative of mammoths. The fossilized teeth were gifted to the band by fans approximately two decades ago. After consulting with geologists at the University of Georgia, Mastodon learned that these fossils were unsuitable for museum display. Instead, the scientists helped them grind the teeth into a fine powder to blend with molten vinyl during the record pressing process. This combination creates a compelling physical and symbolic connection between the music and prehistory. The band produced only 170 copies of these special vinyl records, which will be available exclusively through an online lottery launching alongside their upcoming tour. This innovative release highlights the band's creative commitment to heavy metal and its thematic ties to ancient and natural history, making for a unique collectible for fans and vinyl enthusiasts alike.
