Binance CFO Kaiser Ng is leaving to pursue a new venture following a major $6.3 billion hack. He will be succeeded by Justin Yek as the company navigates the security breach impact.

Binance, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges, is undergoing executive changes in the wake of a massive security breach. Kaiser Ng, Binance’s chief financial officer, announced his departure after more than five years with the company to pursue a new venture. This transition was reportedly planned over the past six months, according to co-CEO Yi He.

The departure follows closely on the heels of a significant cyberattack that resulted in hackers stealing $6.3 billion worth of cryptocurrency from Binance users. In response, Binance temporarily froze withdrawals to contain the fallout. Once operations resumed, users swiftly withdrew a net total of $3.6 billion within hours.

Investigations led Binance and the FBI to attribute the hack to a North Korean cybercriminal group known as TraderTraitor. In a move aimed at maintaining user trust, Binance committed to covering all losses incurred from the hack itself, stating that users would not bear any financial impact.

As part of the company’s leadership restructuring, Justin Yek has been appointed as the new CFO to replace Ng. This change comes as Binance continues to address the repercussions of the hack and reinforces its commitment to security and financial responsibility.

Binance’s situation underscores the ongoing vulnerabilities in cryptocurrency exchanges and the importance of robust security measures. The CFO transition, coinciding with the hack aftermath, marks a critical phase in the company’s attempts to restore confidence among its global user base.
