Google has launched its AI-powered Dreambeans app in India, bringing personalized visual stories created from users’ Google data to a broader audience in 13 local languages alongside English.
Google has officially expanded its experimental AI app Dreambeans to India, marking its first international release beyond the United States. Launched initially in June 2026 for U.S. users, Dreambeans leverages data from connected Google services such as Calendar, Gmail, Photos, Search, YouTube, and Gemini to generate personalized, illustrated stories reflecting users’ interests and daily lives without requiring manual prompts.
The Indian version of Dreambeans supports 13 local languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali, in addition to English. This localization aims to accommodate India’s linguistic diversity and engage the country’s vast user base, where there is notable overlap across multiple Google services. Users can select one language at a time for story generation, though currently, the app cannot mix multiple languages within a single story, which may limit appeal given the common practice of code-switching (such as Hinglish) in India.
Google’s product manager Gozde Oznur highlighted that India was chosen due to strong user interest and extensive adoption of Google’s ecosystem in the market. Since its U.S. debut, Dreambeans has seen nearly 55,000 downloads, with a peak following its broader availability to all eligible American users aged 18 and older.
Dreambeans recently enhanced its capabilities by adding animation features using Google’s Veo video-generation model, moving beyond static AI-generated illustrations to more dynamic storytelling experiences.
Privacy considerations remain important: Dreambeans requires access to users’ Google account data, raising concerns about sharing sensitive personal information. Users have control over which services to connect and can disconnect or delete data within the app. Generated stories are private and intended solely for the account holder. The app includes features allowing users to exclude certain subjects, such as business-related content or potentially distressing memories involving deceased individuals.
Looking ahead, Google is exploring ways to evolve Dreambeans from a storytelling tool toward an interactive assistant that can help users act upon its personalized recommendations. The app is currently available for personal Gmail accounts on Android and iOS in India and the U.S., targeting adults aged 18 and over.
Dreambeans represents Google’s experimental push into personalized AI content generation, distinguishing itself from general-purpose AI chatbots by focusing specifically on creating daily, illustrated narratives drawn directly from users’ digital life footprints within Google’s services.
