Reddit has launched a 'For You' feed, combining posts from joined communities with personalized recommendations to foster discovery and engagement.
Reddit has adopted the "For You" feed format, a content recommendation approach popularized by platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Threads. Announced on October 28, 2026, the feature offers users two feed options upon opening the app: "For You" and "Following." The "For You" feed blends posts from communities that users have joined with tailored recommendations based on their interests, aiming to surface relevant conversations and communities that users might not otherwise encounter. In contrast, the "Following" feed restricts the view to posts from communities that the user has explicitly subscribed to.
This update represents Reddit's effort to align with the recommendation-driven social media experience prevalent today, using algorithms to curate content that encourages users to engage beyond their existing communities. Reddit emphasized the goal of fostering connection, participation, and a sense of belonging through this design change.
While Reddit has previously recommended content from outside subscribed communities, the novelty here is dedicating an entire feed on the homepage specifically to these recommended posts. Users retain full control over their experience, as they can easily switch between the two feeds and will be returned to the last feed they viewed upon reopening the app.
Introducing the "For You" feed is a strategic move likely intended to increase user engagement by encouraging exploration and discovery. However, some users have already voiced concerns during testing phases, preferring the traditional "Following" feed's more focused content from joined communities. Despite this, Reddit is rolling out the feature globally over the coming weeks.
As Reddit continues to evolve, this new feed experience marks a step toward a more personalized and human-centric internet, aiming to connect users with new ideas, perspectives, and interests beyond their usual circles, as the company highlighted in their blog statement.
