Apple introduces touchscreen MacBook Pro models starting at $2,899, with fully upgraded versions reaching $14,549, featuring the latest M5 Max chips and expanded memory and storage options.
Apple has officially unveiled its first touchscreen MacBook Pro models, marking a major change nearly a decade after discontinuing the Touch Bar feature. The new MacBook Pro lineup includes 14-inch and 16-inch versions starting at $2,899 and $3,399 respectively, according to reports from TechCrunch and MacRumors published on October 28, 2026.
These laptops come equipped with Apple's latest M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, with the high-end M5 Max featuring an 18-core CPU and 40-core GPU. Notably, the top-tier configurations offer up to 128GB of unified memory and an unprecedented 16TB solid-state drive (SSD).
Upgrading storage and memory largely drives the pricing to record highs. For instance, moving from the base 2TB SSD to 16TB adds $7,000 to the cost, while increasing unified memory from 48GB to 128GB adds $2,000. Additionally, options like nano-texture glass come at a $150 premium. As a result, the most expensive 14-inch touchscreen MacBook Pro can cost up to $14,249, and the 16-inch model can reach $14,549.
For context, the previous highest-end 16-inch MacBook Pro was priced around $10,149, making the new top-tier model approximately $4,400 or 43% more expensive, although it includes double the storage. Base model prices have also seen increases of roughly 10-16% depending on the configuration.
Apple attributed some of the price inflation to ongoing memory shortages and the hardware demands associated with AI workloads. Despite the high cost, the introduction of touchscreen MacBook Pros also reflects Apple's renewed commitment to blending traditional laptop functionality with direct touch interactions.
Pre-orders for these devices opened on October 30, 2026, with general availability starting November 6, 2026. This launch positions Apple at the uppermost end of laptop pricing, aiming to attract professionals seeking powerful hybrid input methods and cutting-edge hardware enhancements.
