Gudea employs advanced AI to analyze how online conversations spread and escalate, helping companies anticipate and respond to social media crises before they grow. The startup recently secured $7 million in seed funding to expand its capabilities and client base.

Social media and online platforms are fertile grounds for rapid information spread, where even a small post involving AI-generated misinformation, hate speech, or rumors can escalate into major public controversies. Addressing this challenge, Gudea, a startup that brands itself as a “storm tracker for the internet,” uses artificial intelligence to help organizations detect emerging social media crises before they erupt.

Unlike traditional social listening tools that primarily count mentions, hashtags, or impressions, Gudea’s AI offers deeper insights by tracking who is driving conversations, the speed at which stories gain traction, the pathways information travels, and the platforms involved. Its analysis spans over 500 mainstream and fringe sites, including X, Reddit, and TikTok, focusing on behavior and relationships behind the content rather than just volume metrics.

Gudea’s approach provides organizations with context to decide how and whether to respond to rising online narratives. This proactive stance in reputation management was highlighted by CEO and founder Keith Presley during the company’s pitch at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026. Presley emphasized that many industries rely on outdated tools that do not provide actionable intelligence about the dynamics of online discourse.

Founded in 2023 by Presley, Jonathan Sperber, and CTO James Thomin, the company originated from work done at the George Washington Initiative, a nonprofit aimed at adapting intelligence community techniques to counter domestic disinformation. They recognized a gap in existing tools’ ability to trace information flow across individuals, groups, and platforms—prompting the development of Gudea.

With about 40 clients—including Fortune 50 firms in telecommunications and retail, one of the world’s largest AI labs, top music bands, government agencies, and PR firms—Gudea has proven relevance across sectors. The rise of generative AI has increased the prevalence of inauthentic online activity, making Gudea’s technology more critical, as noted by Presley who observed a jump from one in four to nine in ten examined cases showing such activity.

Looking ahead, Gudea plans to enhance its narrative tracking by introducing geolocation capabilities pinpointing discussions to city-block precision, expected next year. It also aims to empower customers with AI tools to simulate and predict outcomes of campaigns prior to launch, potentially mitigating risks.

The company recently announced a $7 million seed funding round co-led by Mudita Venture Partners and Silicon Road Ventures, bringing total funding to around $15 million. This investment supports Gudea’s mission to equip organizations with sophisticated AI tools to manage reputation and communication challenges in an increasingly complex online environment.
