Google joins forces with Working Trees to remove 270,000 tons of CO₂ by restoring Brazilian ranchlands with silvopasture, supporting carbon removal and sustainable farming.

Google announced a significant partnership with the environmental organization Working Trees aimed at addressing climate change through sustainable land management in Brazil. Through the Symbiosis Coalition, Google has committed to a long-term agreement to remove 270,000 tons of carbon dioxide by implementing silvopasture techniques across ranchlands in Brazil’s Amazon and Cerrado biomes.

Silvopasture involves planting trees directly on active pasturelands where cattle graze, combining forestry and grazing in an integrated, sustainable system. This practice not only sequesters CO₂ but also enhances the health of the soil and animals by providing essential shade, which improves resilience against drought and fosters more productive land and livestock.

The collaboration offers ranchers the chance to diversify their income streams by generating revenue from timber and carbon credits, making sustainable farming financially viable. Using Working Trees’ advanced digital platform, each tree planted is tracked meticulously, creating a transparent verification system to monitor the environmental impact accurately.

This approach is highly scalable, with potential expansion across millions of hectares of Brazilian ranchlands, signaling a promising path toward balancing agricultural productivity with ecological restoration. Google's involvement illustrates how technology and corporate support can facilitate impactful climate action by benefiting both people and the planet.

The project remains ongoing, and its long-term effects on regional ecosystems and communities will be observed as implementation progresses. The partnership highlights the critical role of innovative land use practices in global carbon removal efforts and sustainable agriculture.
