Elon Musk announced a plan to distribute one SpaceX share to each US child starting in 2025, leveraging tax-advantaged Trump Accounts, valuing the giveaway at roughly $10.5 billion.

Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, has unveiled a large-scale initiative to give one SpaceX share to each child in the United States beginning next year. With approximately 72 million children projected in the US by July 2025, this program represents an estimated $10.5 billion distribution of SpaceX shares.

Musk indicated these shares will be delivered through Trump Accounts, a form of tax-advantaged investment accounts designed specifically for American children. He expressed gratitude to Brad Gerstner, co-founder of Trump Accounts, acknowledging his role in making this giveaway possible. Musk also hinted this initiative is the first in a series of similar giveaways planned for the future.

This development follows earlier share distributions by other SpaceX stakeholders, such as SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell, who recently gave shares to 2 million Trump Accounts. Other significant investments into Trump Accounts have come from the founder of Dell with $6.25 billion and Micron Technology with a $250 million contribution.

Alongside these investment initiatives, Musk has also made substantial political donations, contributing $158 million in September to the Senate Leadership Fund PAC and $76 million to his own Super PAC, America PAC. These donations reflect Musk’s deeper engagement in US political funding ahead of the 2024 election cycle.

While the primary focus is on the share distribution to US children to encourage wealth-building through investment accounts, Musk’s broader activities highlight his multifaceted involvement in technology, finance, and politics. The exact mechanisms for share transfers and final valuation will likely evolve as the program proceeds starting in 2025, but this announcement marks a significant moment in making private space company ownership more broadly accessible among the younger US population.
