Elon Musk's SpaceXAI has enabled Grok Bot to automatically route user requests to external AI models—Claude Opus 5.5 for text, Midjourney for images, and Suno for music—without manual selection, billing according to the model used.

SpaceXAI, the company associated with Elon Musk, has announced that its AI assistant, Grok Bot, will begin routing user queries to external AI models to handle tasks its own AI cannot efficiently process. Specifically, the system will use Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 for text-based tasks, Midjourney for image generation, and Suno for music creation. This integration is automatic, with no manual option for users to select which model services their request.

According to iXBT reporting on October 11, 2026, billing will correspond to whichever external model processes the request. For example, if Claude handles a user prompt, the client pays at Claude's rate. Grok Bot's analytics will track which model served each request, including any instances where a model switch occurs due to errors.

The system's documentation notes considerations for corporate clients with contracts restricting third-party data processors. Although a default administrative whitelist of approved models exists, Grok Bot may override this list, and clients must accept that potential.

Elon Musk has not released evidence or testing data supporting any improvements in response quality resulting from this automatic routing. Details regarding the scope of deployment, terms of the third-party providers, or commercial agreements with SpaceXAI remain undisclosed. Previously, SpaceX and Anthropic had a distinct arrangement involving data center compute rentals, but this is unrelated to the current AI integration.

Grok Bot itself launched in beta on August 11, 2026, featuring agents capable of retaining memory and context, interacting with connected apps, and continuing tasks even after the user's device closes. Paid accounts have a weekly usage limit after which additional charges apply, managed through SpaceXAI's Cursor payment system. This setup allows ongoing tasks to finish despite exceeding monthly spending limits.

This development reflects an evolving AI ecosystem where platforms leverage multiple specialized models to enhance overall functionality, albeit raising questions about data governance and transparency for enterprise users.
