Blue Origin announced its Power Tower, a 20-meter modular solar power station designed to generate 10 kW at the Moon's south pole, supporting future lunar missions including NASA's Artemis program.

Blue Origin has presented plans for an innovative solar power installation aimed at providing sustainable energy on the Moon. Their concept, dubbed the Power Tower, is a 20-meter tall modular solar facility intended for deployment at the lunar south pole, a region NASA is likely to use for its Artemis missions.

Currently at an early development stage, the technology was introduced through an animated presentation, highlighting the tower's capability to generate 10 kilowatts of electricity. The tower's significant height is purposefully designed to elevate solar panels to capture limited sunlight available in this challenging lunar environment.

The modular design allows the Power Tower to distribute electrical power flexibly to various lunar equipment and robotic systems. Although it will not supply the entire lunar base, it is expected to serve as a key energy source, enhancing the site’s energy autonomy, especially given the logistical challenges of fuel supply on the Moon.

This initiative underscores the increasing emphasis on green technologies for extraterrestrial exploration, addressing a critical need for reliable power generation to sustain long-term lunar operations. While the project remains in conceptual stages without immediate manufacturing plans, Blue Origin’s Power Tower represents a promising step towards supporting human and robotic presence on the Moon through sustainable energy solutions.
