Google partners with the USO to deploy Google Beam 3D video technology at 20 locations, enabling deployed service members to share lifelike video calls with loved ones, capturing real-time body language and eye contact to bridge the gap of long-distance separation.

Google is collaborating with the USO to expand the deployment of Google Beam, an advanced 3D video communication technology, across 20 locations worldwide to support military families separated by deployment. This initiative aims to reduce the emotional strain of distance by enabling lifelike connections between deployed service members and their families.

Google Beam uses artificial intelligence to create real-time, immersive 3D video calls that capture subtle details such as body language and eye contact, making interactions feel as if participants are physically present in the same room. This capability allows families to share important moments live, such as children’s first steps and military promotions, which are often missed during deployments.

Earlier this year, Google Beam piloted a program connecting military members in Trzebień, Poland, with families in Fort Bliss, Texas. Building on this success, Google and the USO have expanded the initiative to include places like Grafenwöhr, Germany, and Fort Hood, Texas. The program’s impact is documented in a new Google-produced docuseries, directed by veteran Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, which follows four soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 37th Armored Regiment during their deployment in Poland.

The docuseries highlights how Google Beam fosters emotional closeness despite the physical distance. For example, Sergeant Amoy Brown and his wife Tiyanna Orane, who are both in the military but in different locations and time zones, used Beam to celebrate Tiyanna’s promotion and connect with their young son. Similarly, Army Chaplain Roland Kassales was able to experience his daughter's storytelling with natural interactions, and Sergeant First Class Matthew Jennings witnessed his children’s growth and family moments through the technology. Major Michael Rodriguez’s family also used Beam to share milestones like their daughter’s first steps.

Google emphasizes that this partnership with the USO and the deployment of Google Beam represents a meaningful leap in how technology can support deployed service members and their loved ones, helping them maintain real human connections across great distances. More information, along with the docuseries, is available on the Google Beam website.
