Apple's new foldable iPhone Duo, featuring a large inner display and versatile usage modes, debuts this Friday alongside a variety of apps enhanced to leverage its capabilities, from streaming and gaming to productivity and creativity.

Apple’s first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, will be available starting October 23, 2026, in over 70 countries and regions. This innovative device features an inner display 50 percent larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max and supports multiple usage poses, inspiring developers globally to create optimized applications that take advantage of its unique screen and performance capabilities. The iPhone Duo’s two displays share the same aspect ratio, allowing apps to transition seamlessly between screens and scale proportionally, enabling users to continue tasks uninterrupted when opening or closing the device.

Powering these experiences is the A20 Pro chip, providing breakthrough performance and new iPhone features such as Split View, which enables opening two apps side by side. This enhanced multitasking capability supports improved productivity on the go. To aid users in identifying compatible software, apps optimized for iPhone Duo include a “Made for iPhone Duo” badge on the App Store.

Entertainment apps like Netflix have been redesigned for the device; members can scroll through clips on the outer screen and immediately watch full content on the larger inner display, which adapts fluidly between vertical and horizontal orientations. Streaming platforms including Prime Video and Paramount+ utilize the foldable design differently—Prime Video can display content alongside related information when partially folded, while Paramount+ enhances playback controls and browsing. Sports applications such as MLB and PGA Tour deliver live games, real-time scores, and statistics simultaneously thanks to the dual-display setup.

Productivity and communication apps are also enhancing their interfaces to utilize the expanded display area. Microsoft Word and Outlook will soon offer desktop-class experiences with side-by-side document and email views. Zoom allows simultaneous visibility of content and participant video feeds. Slack, Salesforce, and Fantastical improve workspace, CRM, and calendar management respectively by making use of the extra screen real estate. Additionally, note-taking and task management apps like Notewise, Things, and Bear provide integrated, efficient workflows with AI-powered tools and multitasking support.

Creative and gaming applications take full advantage of the device’s performance and screen size. Apps like Detail use on-device AI models for faster and private content creation, while Instagram enhances the creator experience with expanded views and editing tools. Games such as Asphalt Legends, Zenless Zone Zero, and the upcoming UnGodly RPG adjust gameplay and controls based on device position, enriching user interaction. Apple Arcade titles Sneaky Sasquatch and Retrocade make unique use of the foldable format for immersive and accessible play.

Lifestyle and utility apps benefit from the device’s flexibility as well. Cooking and shopping apps offer richer visual and interactive content when the iPhone Duo is partially folded and placed on counters. Travel applications like Lyft, American Airlines, and United Airlines optimize layouts for planning and journey management. Outdoor apps such as Sky Guide and Tide Guide combine informational displays for stargazing and tide tracking. Several local and regional apps have customized experiences reflecting their user bases worldwide, including iQIYI and Taobao in China, WEBTOON and KakaoTalk in Korea, and regional apps in Europe and Latin America.

Apple has supported developers extensively through workshops, technical resources, and a dedicated SDK within iOS 27.1, facilitating easy adaptation to the iPhone Duo’s foldable display and hinge functionalities. Simulators in Xcode 27.1 enable developers to test app behaviors across multiple device configurations.

The iPhone Duo is available starting at $1,999 USD, with storage options ranging from 256GB to 2TB and color choices of star white and night sky. Customers can also access leasing through Apple Upgrade in the U.S. Additional service offerings such as AppleCare and iCloud+ provide comprehensive protection and cloud storage solutions. New subscribers purchasing iPhone Duo can enjoy a complimentary three months of Apple One services, bundling multiple Apple subscriptions.

With iPhone Duo and its app ecosystem officially launching this week, users can expect a broad array of enhanced digital experiences enabled by foldable technology, combining portability with expansive functionality.
