Snap appoints Robert Downey Jr. as Chief Customer Experience Officer for its Specs augmented reality glasses, showcasing new features in promotional videos ahead of their fall launch.
Snap has enlisted actor Robert Downey Jr., known for his role as Iron Man, as the new brand ambassador for its augmented reality (AR) glasses, Snap Specs. Downey has been named Chief Customer Experience Officer for the product and appears in several videos demonstrating the glasses' features. These include providing assistance for golfing putts, practicing digital art, and privately viewing sports video content.
In one promotional video, Downey humorously discards a box labeled "AI glasses," a critical nod aimed at Meta's smart glasses. This aligns with his role beyond endorsement; Downey will collaborate with the Snap Specs team to explore AR's potential across various fields, including entertainment, education, medicine, engineering, and manufacturing.
Downey expressed enthusiasm about the device, stating that after testing many wearable technologies over two decades, he was convinced of Snap Specs’ value within 40 seconds of use. Alongside Downey, musician Imogen Heap and NBA player Jimmy Butler are also part of Snap's promotional efforts.
Snap Specs are scheduled to launch in the fall at a price of $2,195 and are currently available for pre-order. Early reviews from hands-on experiences at Snap's headquarters suggest a promising future for the AR glasses as a lifestyle and professional tool.
