Apple introduces a redesigned iPad mini with an 8.5-inch OLED screen, powerful A20 Pro chip, enhanced cameras, improved wireless connectivity, and water and dust resistance, available for pre-order October 28 and shipping November 6.
Apple has announced the most significant update yet to its iPad mini lineup, showcasing a thinner and lighter device with a larger 8.5-inch OLED display, powered by the new A20 Pro chip. This iteration marks a major leap in performance, graphical capabilities, and AI processing, making it the most versatile iPad mini to date.
The redesigned iPad mini features an OLED Super Retina XDR display with 24 percent thinner bezels than its predecessor, offering deeper blacks, a P3 wide color gamut, and peak brightness up to 1200 nits — more than double that of the previous model. An optional nano-texture variant reduces glare, making it suitable for use in bright environments.
Under the hood, the A20 Pro SoC employs a 2-nanometer process and includes a 7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators in each core, and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine in the 512GB configuration. This enables up to 4.5 times faster AI performance and 2.7 times enhanced graphics performance, supporting advanced tasks such as on-device AI models and sophisticated gaming.
The iPad mini now includes a 12MP Center Stage front camera positioned on the landscape edge ideal for video conferencing, and a 12MP wide rear camera with Smart HDR 4 and an Adaptive True Tone flash. Audio quality is improved through an innovative Acoustic Display that integrates special woofers and tweeters to deliver richer sound while maintaining the device's IP67 rating for water and dust resistance.
Connectivity options have been upgraded with the new N1 wireless chip supporting Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, alongside the C2 cellular modem on LTE-capable models delivering up to 50 percent faster data speeds. These changes promise more reliable connections and seamless transitions between networks.
Running iPadOS 27, the device benefits from Apple's latest software advances including enhanced Apple Intelligence and a beta version of Siri AI, providing personalized assistance and broad knowledge access while maintaining user privacy through on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute.
Customers may pre-order the iPad mini starting October 28, with availability beginning November 6 in 36 countries. It comes in midnight and starlight finishes and storage options of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB, with pricing starting at $699 for the Wi-Fi model and $849 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular variant. Compatible accessories include the new TechWoven Smart Folio and Apple Pencil models.
Apple has emphasized environmentally conscious manufacturing, using recycled materials and renewable energy at various stages of production, aligning with the company's goal to be carbon neutral by 2030.
This comprehensive update positions the iPad mini as a powerful, portable device blending advanced display technology, cutting-edge AI and graphics performance, and enhanced connectivity, aimed at a broad spectrum of users from creatives to professionals requiring mobility and versatility.
