Mozilla updates Firefox Smart Window with AI-powered form autofill using open tabs data and a webpage monitoring tool that alerts users to specified changes, currently in beta for US and Canada desktop users.
Mozilla has enhanced Firefox's AI-driven Smart Window browsing tool with two significant features: intelligent form filling and webpage monitoring. The updated Smart Window can now assist users in completing online forms by extracting relevant information from their open browser tabs. For instance, it can pull data from an online portfolio or LinkedIn page to populate a job application’s work history fields. Users activate this by clicking into a form containing at least four text fields, then selecting the "Fill from sources" option to choose which open tabs Firefox should reference. This capability currently supports text fields, with plans to extend to dropdown menus and PDF forms. Mozilla clarifies that data from source web pages is processed via Google’s Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite AI model to generate these suggestions.
Additionally, Smart Window introduces a webpage monitoring feature. Users can initiate this by typing "/watch" in the Smart Window chat, describing the content they want tracked, and specifying target webpages. Firefox will then routinely check these sites for updates such as sales or job listings when the browser is open. Notification of detected changes will appear through the toolbar’s Tasks button or desktop alerts, provided notifications are enabled. Monitoring pauses if no changes occur after 60 days and ceases entirely after 90 days.
These functionalities are debuting in the Smart Window beta for desktop users in the US and Canada, with availability planned for other regions in the near future. These updates extend Firefox's push to integrate AI tools that enhance productivity and browsing convenience within the browser environment.
