Apple has announced its 8th-generation iPad Mini, marking a significant upgrade with the inclusion of an 8.5-inch OLED display. Showcased recently at Apple's "Pro and tell" event, the new Mini model features thinner bezels and an impressive peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits, delivering vibrant and clear visuals. While the display supports a smooth 60Hz refresh rate, it stops short of the 120Hz found in some other Apple devices.
The introduction of an optional nano-texture matte finish greatly reduces screen glare, enhancing usability in various lighting conditions as experienced at the event venue. The front-facing camera has been repositioned to the long edge, aligning it with the orientation seen in other recent iPad models, which improves usability during video calls and selfies. However, the device continues to rely on Touch ID for biometric security rather than transitioning to Face ID.
Under the hood, the iPad Mini is powered by the A20 Pro chip. The 128GB and 256GB storage models feature a five-core CPU, while the top-tier 512GB version is equipped with a six-core CPU, offering additional processing power for demanding tasks. Apple has also introduced the "Acoustic Display," where woofers are paired through the display to deliver richer bass and enhanced volume, promising better audio quality without relying solely on external speakers.
This new iPad Mini comes in two color options, starlight and midnight, starting at a price of $699. Preorders have already begun, with the official launch date set for November 6. The device’s compact size combined with its advanced display technology and audio improvements positions it as a compelling option for users seeking portability without compromising on multimedia experience.
