Google’s Pixel 11 Pro Fold refines its predecessor with enhanced durability, a brighter display, and updated cameras, but faces stiff competition from newer wide-format foldables.

Google has released the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, its latest foldable smartphone iteration that closely follows the design philosophy of last year’s model. While the foldable market increasingly favors wider devices, Google continues to prioritize a sturdy rectangular form factor, adding refinements that appeal especially to existing Pixel enthusiasts.

The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is slightly lighter than its predecessor by 19 grams and marginally thinner when folded—10.1mm down from 10.8mm—although the difference is subtle in everyday use. Google claims to have tripled the device's durability, thanks to materials like a new glass-ceramic cover on the display and a glass-fiber composite back, protecting against impacts without visible damage through typical drops.

While the device remains relatively thick compared to competitors such as Honor’s Magic V6, its solid hinge design prioritizes robustness over one-handed usability, making it impossible to open the phone with a single hand by intention. The external screen is marginally larger, but the notable hardware upgrade is the internal display's significant brightness boost to 3,600 nits, improving visibility under bright conditions.

Despite the enhanced screen, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold’s fold crease remains distinctly visible, more so than rival devices from Oppo and Honor, which have succeeded in reducing crease visibility. The phone also continues to feature the unique HiLight indicator, a subtle notification light for select calls and hands-free interactions.

On the software front, Google leverages Android’s multitasking capabilities, allowing two apps to run side by side—a feature that benefits from native foldable-optimized apps like Gmail but is less effective with apps lacking such support, such as Slack. Google's Magic Cue and associated AI-powered features provide helpful suggestions and quick-reply utilities that streamline communication and note-taking on the foldable screen.

Camera improvements over the previous model include an updated 48-megapixel main sensor with better light capture and support for 30x Super Res Zoom, up from 20x. However, the ultrawide and telephoto lenses remain similar to last year’s and do not represent a major advancement. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold’s camera system, while competent, doesn’t quite match the performance of Google’s flagship flat Pixel 11 Pro phones.

Priced at $1,899, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold positions itself alongside rivals such as the iPhone Duo and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 both in features and cost. With increasing competition from wider foldable models—especially from Xiaomi and Honor in Europe—Google’s more conventional foldable approach appeals primarily to Pixel loyalists rather than attracting first-time foldable buyers.

Overall, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold exemplifies Google’s commitment to durability and incremental improvements in foldable technology, though its conservative design contrasts with the market trend toward larger, wider foldables and leaves some potential advancements, particularly in camera and crease reduction, unexplored.
