DoorDash Reports Only Hundreds of AI Agent Orders Amid Growing Interest

DoorDash reveals it has processed merely several hundred orders via AI agents despite millions of daily deliveries, signaling early-stage integration of AI-driven ordering.
Despite widespread speculation about AI agents transforming commerce, DoorDash’s recent third-quarter earnings call revealed that AI-driven orders are currently a very small fraction of its business. CEO Tony Xu stated that the company has received only “several hundred” orders from third-party AI agents such as Muse, Instinct, and Fo. This is negligible compared to DoorDash’s average daily volume of about 3 million deliveries as reported in 2025.
Xu emphasized that customers mostly continue to place orders directly through DoorDash’s app. However, the company is open to exploring this emerging area, aiming to understand various AI agent use cases and build collaborative relationships with third-party developers. He mentioned potential future opportunities for DoorDash to advertise within these AI platforms.
DoorDash itself has invested in AI ordering technologies, launching multiple agents: a text-to-order agent in September, a command-line interface (CLI) agent in July, and a chatbot named Ask DoorDash in June that enables ordering via prompts and images. Additionally, DoorDash introduced an MCP (multi-channel platform) to facilitate orders placed through corporate chatbots.
The broader landscape of agent-based ordering remains unsettled. Some e-commerce platforms like Amazon are restricting AI agent access, while others such as Walmart are actively encouraging it to gain a competitive edge. As AI agents continue to evolve, the extent to which they will influence consumer ordering behavior on platforms like DoorDash is still developing.
