Google expands Gemini Notebook with free textbooks from OpenStax, Open Textbook Library, and S Chand Publishing, enabling students to generate study aids directly from trusted sources.
Google has enhanced its Gemini Notebook, an AI-powered study tool, by integrating free access to hundreds of textbooks from notable providers in the U.S. and India, including OpenStax, Open Textbook Library, and S Chand Publishing. This update, announced on October 29, 2026, follows the launch of Expert Intelligence, a Google initiative that promotes engagement with trusted sources through AI products.
Previously, students could add eligible ebooks purchased from Google Play Books into Gemini Notebook. Now, they can browse and add materials for their courses at no cost by selecting the “Add sources” option and then choosing “Textbooks” to explore the expansive catalog.
Every response generated within Gemini Notebook is directly grounded in the added textbook content. This includes inline citations and clickable links to the original sources, ensuring transparency and reliability. Beyond passive reading, students can transform textbook material into customized study guides, flashcards, and practice quizzes, enabling active learning and personalized study strategies.
This development supports students by consolidating their learning resources within a single AI-powered environment. By grounding answers in authoritative textbooks rather than generic internet content, Gemini Notebook aims to improve study accuracy and efficiency.
The integration underscores Google’s broader strategy to leverage artificial intelligence to complement traditional education tools and foster deeper engagement with study materials. With resources that span a variety of subjects and educational levels, the addition makes Gemini Notebook a more versatile companion for learners.
