Bedrock Robotics secured $600 million in Series C funding, valued at $4.1 billion, to accelerate deployment of its self-driving excavators on construction sites amid a shortage of skilled operators.
Bedrock Robotics, an autonomous vehicle technology startup specializing in self-driving excavators, has raised $600 million in a Series C funding round, bringing its valuation to $4.1 billion. The funding is led by CapitalG and Emergence Capital and follows the company’s recent milestone of moving its autonomous excavators from testing into active commercial use on construction sites.
Founded in 2024 by veterans from the autonomous vehicle and robotics sectors, Bedrock developed an autonomous driving retrofit kit for construction machinery. Its excavators equipped with this technology are now working at several sites across the United States including a water treatment facility in Nevada, an earthwork project in Texas, and a large-scale civil sitework project managed by Zachry Construction Corporation.
CEO and co-founder Boris Sofman, formerly head of Waymo’s self-driving trucks program and co-founder of Anki Robotics, is joined by other Waymo alumni and industry experts in the leadership team. The new capital will support Bedrock’s plan to scale up deployments to more construction projects and expand customer support infrastructure.
The company focuses on excavators due in part to a significant shortage of skilled operators, a problem exacerbated by an aging workforce where over 40% of construction workers are expected to retire within five years, according to the Associated Builders and Contractors trade association. Bedrock aims to address this labor gap by integrating autonomous technology into construction workflows.
Bedsrock’s most recent collaboration is with Haydon, a general contractor in Arizona, which intends to utilize Bedrock’s autonomous excavators in various construction projects including advanced manufacturing, water treatment, data centers, and healthcare facilities.
The funding round also saw participation from investors such as US Innovative Technology Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Temasek, alongside earlier investors including 8VC and Nvidia. Bedrock has made key executive hires as well, appointing Amy Jones Satrom, with experience at Amazon and Uber, as vice president of operations, and Lando Juarez, formerly Uber’s head of legal for autonomous mobility, as general counsel.
With this infusion of capital and talent, Bedrock Robotics is positioning itself to become a dependable provider of autonomous excavation solutions across the expanding construction industry.
