Eugenia Kuyda, founder of Replika, has launched Wabi, a free multiplayer AI assistant app following her original 2014 personal AI assistant concept. Wabi offers multi-threaded task management and shared AI interactions, aiming to enhance collaborative productivity and everyday life.

Twelve years after pitching her conversational chatbot IO at TechCrunch Disrupt in 2014, Eugenia Kuyda has launched Wabi, a personal AI assistant app that builds on her early vision of AI agents helping manage daily tasks. Kuyda originally founded Luka, which evolved into Replika, known for its AI companionship. Departing Replika last year, Kuyda introduced Wabi as a new AI platform designed to harness advancements in large language models that now align closely with her initial ambitions.

Wabi, released for general use in October 2026, functions as a messenger-style app where users maintain multiple dedicated AI threads, each focused on different long-term goals or specific tasks. For instance, within a health thread, users can interact with a weight-loss tracker app, while a family thread might include an app listing nearby children's events. This multi-threaded approach aims to avoid the contextual overload seen in single-threaded AI chatbots, increasing usability over time.

Distinct from competitors like Muse and Instinct, which offer single conversational streams, Wabi supports shared threads acting like group chats where multiple users can engage with AI agents collaboratively. Kuyda highlighted that this multiplayer design enables practical shared activities such as coordinating schedules, tracking events, or collaboratively managing reading lists. Users control data sharing within each thread, with scoped access allowing partners or group members to query calendar availability or ticket purchases as permitted.

Wabi's AI dynamically generates and manages apps within threads upon connection to user data sources like email, easing the burden of manual app creation users often avoid. The system is SOC 2 compliant and stores data primarily in the U.S., underscoring its privacy and security commitments.

Kuyda envisions Wabi fostering not only productivity but social connection, extending the ethos from Replika of using AI to alleviate loneliness by helping people spend quality time together in real life. Currently free with no finalized monetization, Wabi is pursuing additional funding to expand its capabilities and user base.

Wabi represents an evolution of Kuyda's decade-old concept of personal AI assistants, now practical due to modern AI advancements, addressing both individual and collaborative needs in managing everyday tasks and long-term goals.
