Anthropic launches Claude Duet, an AI agent designed for task automation and management for professionals and small businesses, accessible via waitlist for Pro and Max plan users.

The AI landscape is becoming increasingly competitive with a growing array of personal and productivity assistants. Anthropic has entered this arena with Claude Duet, a new app aimed at serving professionals and small businesses by automating and managing various tasks. Unlike personal assistants that handle errands or real-time browser interactions, Claude Duet focuses on creating daily briefings, dashboards, and suggesting actions based on the user’s data.

This distinction positions Claude Duet more as a proactive agent rather than a traditional assistant. It operates by running tasks in the background through its virtual machine, requiring user approval only when necessary, such as for sensitive actions. This approach aligns with recent market shifts that favor agents capable of working autonomously on behalf of users.

Built on Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5 model, Duet can connect to over 6,000 connectors and plugins available in the Claude Marketplace, enhancing its flexibility and usefulness. Notably, it supports online purchases through integrations with Stripe’s Link digital wallet and Shopify’s Shop Pay, although all payment-related operations demand user consent. It explicitly does not engage in activities like trading securities or transferring money between accounts.

To maintain security and privacy, Anthropic has incorporated a new classifier that screens messages to prevent sensitive information leaks. By default, the agent declines requests for credit card numbers or government IDs, reflecting a commitment to protect user data.

Claude Duet is accessible as an app on iOS and Android, as well as on the web via Claude.ai. Currently, it is offered in a research preview stage for Pro and Max plan customers, who must join a waitlist to gain access. This launch places Anthropic alongside competitors such as Meta’s Muse and OpenAI’s Dots, all targeting business use cases with AI agents capable of integrating with professional tools and applications.
