Apple's iOS 27.2 update enables Apple Pencil support and introduces enhanced features like 'Edge Light' for the iPhone Duo foldable device, along with broader Siri AI language support and improvements to Apple TV, Podcasts, Music, and FaceTime apps.
Apple has rolled out iOS 27.2, a significant software update that enhances the functionality of its foldable device, the iPhone Duo. Most notably, the update introduces support for the Apple Pencil, fulfilling a previously stated plan by Apple to add this capability "later this year." This marks a first for Apple's foldable phone, offering users precision input on the device's dual-screen setup.
The iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch inner foldable display and a 5.4-inch outer screen, with iOS 27 having brought redesigned controls across this extended real estate. While many leading apps, including Netflix, Prime Video, and Microsoft Outlook, already optimized their interfaces for the Duo's dual screens, the new update further improves user experience by integrating Apple Pencil support.
Another new addition is the "Edge Light" feature designed specifically for the iPhone Duo. This feature illuminates the user's face during video calls, enhancing visibility and call quality under various lighting conditions.
Beyond hardware-specific enhancements, iOS 27.2 expands Siri AI capabilities. Users will find Siri can now suggest actions directly within Messages and supports additional languages such as French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. The update also brings support for Google's SynthID AI watermarking within Apple's Photos app and the Image Playground tool, representing a growing integration of AI security features for digital content.
Apple has introduced refinements to its media and communication apps as well. The Apple TV app on iPhone now supports multiple user profiles for tailored content. Meanwhile, the Apple Podcasts app replaces its “Up Next” queue with a “New Episodes” list and a “Continue Playing” section, complemented by an updated Apple Music logo. FaceTime group calls gain dual capture support, allowing simultaneous streaming from both front and back cameras.
Besides iOS 27.2, Apple simultaneously released updates to macOS (27.2 Golden Gate), watchOS (27.2), visionOS (27.2), tvOS (27.2), and HomePod software (27.2), reflecting a broad enhancement cycle across the company's ecosystem.
Overall, iOS 27.2 represents a key software milestone for Apple’s foldable iPhone, enhancing both productivity and multimedia experiences, while continuing to broaden AI integration across its devices.
