Amazon plans more than €16 billion investment in Germany by 2027 to grow its AI infrastructure, Amazon Web Services cloud region in Frankfurt, satellite internet via Amazon Leo, logistics, and Prime Video content.

Amazon has unveiled plans to invest over €16 billion in its German operations by 2027, aiming to significantly expand its technological and infrastructure capabilities. This fresh investment builds on the company’s more than €100 billion spent in Germany since 2010, where Amazon competes with tech giants like Google and Microsoft to enhance its cloud services and artificial intelligence (AI) offerings.

The investment package includes €4.8 billion dedicated to expanding the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud region in Frankfurt and advancing AI infrastructure to meet the growing demand from customers. Germany is characterized by Amazon’s Chief Global Affairs and Legal Officer David Zapolsky as a hub of innovation and one of Europe’s most attractive investment destinations.

A key component of Amazon’s plans involves bolstering connectivity across Germany through its satellite internet constellation project, Amazon Leo. To facilitate this, Amazon Leo has secured 24 launch slots from the European space launch provider Arianespace, underscoring the company’s ambition to deliver high-speed internet nationwide.

Additionally, Amazon intends to enlarge its logistics network within Germany and invest in the creation of new content for its Prime Video streaming service, strengthening its market offering.

This broad investment reflects Amazon’s strategy to equip German businesses, communities, and content creators with cutting-edge infrastructure and tools to compete and grow effectively in a rapidly evolving digital economy. Details on specific project timelines and expected outcomes beyond 2027 remain forthcoming.
