Following a 10-day disruption, SpaceX has lifted limits on Ukraine’s military use of Starshield, the defense-grade Starlink system, restoring normal connectivity. The restricted access had impaired Ukrainian drones, and the move followed reported interventions by political figures.

SpaceX has recently lifted the restrictions it had placed on Ukraine’s military use of Starshield, the company’s military-grade version of its Starlink satellite internet service, allowing it to function normally again. Ukraine’s Defense Minister Evgeniy Khmara confirmed that Starshield now operates without the previous connectivity issues, though military personnel continue testing the system and have yet to receive detailed reasons for the temporary limitations.

The disruptions spanned about ten days, during which Ukrainian drones flying at speeds near 100 miles per hour experienced loss of internet connection. This resulted in the military losing control of several drones and increased the vulnerability of others forced to operate at slower speeds.

Reports indicate that former U.S. President Donald Trump contacted SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to urge restoration of Starshield services for Ukraine. Both Trump and Musk have publicly criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Musk himself recently commented that Zelensky had "gone too far."

Earlier news sources disclosed that Musk ordered the company to throttle access to Ukraine’s Starlink service, though it was suggested that this decision involved discussions with the Trump administration. Musk stated on the social platform X that Ukraine had breached Starlink’s terms of service by employing the system for offensive drone strikes resulting in fatalities.

Musk emphasized the strategic importance of the service by declaring, "Were Starlink to be turned off, the Ukrainian front line would collapse immediately. This is NOT a threat, it is simply a statement of fact." The restoration of Starshield connectivity thus marks a pivotal moment in Ukraine’s continued use of advanced communications technology in its military operations.
